Questions about this solution

Why not just use a VPN for market research?

A VPN exits from hosting ranges that most platforms recognise on sight, and what comes back is the degraded page reserved for suspicious traffic. A shared node is also one address for the entire company, which is an anomaly signal by itself once a few dozen people sit behind it. Residential exits are addresses a local carrier assigned to a household, so pages render as they do for real users — and you can pin the city and carrier.

How much traffic does a market research project use?

It depends on page count and whether you load assets. Fetching HTML only and blocking images, a typical category study — five markets at twenty thousand pages each — runs roughly 5–20GB, which is a few dollars to a few tens of dollars at $0.8/GB and down. Rendering screenshots or driving a headless browser multiplies that several times over, and at that point the bandwidth plan is the cheaper answer.

Do I need a fixed IP for research work?

Not for public pages — rotating residential is the better fit, since a naturally varying exit is closer to how real traffic is distributed. Two cases do want a fixed address: a signed-in view such as a member price or a seller dashboard, and a longitudinal series where you deliberately re-sample from the same vantage point each week.
